KATVA Ride for Dad (Jun. 2016) VIDEO

KATVA POKER

This past weekend over 250 ATV enthusiasts gathered at Log Chateau Park just north of Fenelon Falls for the Kawartha ATV Association Ride for Dad Poker Run. The event was a huge success with a record number of riders and guests coming out to support the fundraiser for prostate cancer research.

The day began at Log Chateau Park with rider safety meetings and route instructions. Riders could choose from 2 routes – a 60km short route and a 110km long route. The routes guide riders though a variety of terrain in the KATVA 5 Points Trail System. Each route lead back to the Burnt River Community Centre where a hot meal of BBQ Roast Beef and Turkey was served. Prizes were awarded for Top Poker Hands as well as Top Pledge Earners. Prizes were generously donated by sponsors throughout Kawartha Lakes.

This was the first time that Side X Side machines were allowed on the trails. KATVA gained special permission from City of Kawartha Lakes Council to allow the Side X Side machines on a portion of the Victoria Rail Trail and on the Road-ways along the routes just for this event. This special permission was a direct factor in the increased success of this years event as many Side X Side riders came to participate and support the fundraiser.

The day was a huge success raising over $16,000 for the charity. The event proved to be a great draw for tourism to our area. Over half of the participants came from areas across Ontario including Niagara Falls, Ottawa, North Bay, Sudbury, and various locations around the GTA to enjoy the weekend in beautiful Fenelon Falls.

Hats of to KATVA for organizing this successful event for ATV enthusiasts and for their extraordinary volunteer efforts towards increasing tourism in Fenelon Falls. Many local businesses benefitted from your efforts over the weekend.  Thank you.
