Phantom To Play On United Church Organ (Oct. 2017)

Award Winning Concert Organist Ian Sadler brings Phantom of the Opera to Fenelon Falls United Church on Saturday, October 21st

Where else but at Fenelon Falls United Church could you listen to Juno award winning, world renowned Concert Organist Ian Sadler while watching the original “silent movie” version of Phantom of the Opera on large screen? With the quality of the organ, the great acoustics and not a bad seat in the place, you won’t want to miss this concert on Saturday, October 21st at Fenelon Falls United Church, 123 Colborne at Queen Street in Fenelon Falls.

Ian Sadler began his musical training as a boy chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, UK. He won awards and scholarships while pursuing his education, including degrees in musicology and education, with organ diplomas from Trinity College of Music and The Royal College of Organists. Before moving to Canada, his final engagement in the UK was to play the organ in the movie, Chariots of Fire.

Along with 8 solo organ CDs and over 35 choral CD recordings on current release, a Juno award and numerous performances at major venues like Roy Thomson Hall, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, St. James’ Cathedral, not to mention his involvement in launching of the organs at three major concert halls in Canada, Ian is Organist of St. James’ Cathedral in Toronto.  Alongside his duties at St. James’, Ian is Conductor of The Stratford Concert Choir, and Artistic Director and Conductor of The Cathedral Singers of Ontario, a choir which he founded in 1999.

Ian’s talents includes Silent Movie Accompaniments such as Hunchback of Notre Dame, The General, The Circus, Laurel & Hardy shorts, Charlie Chaplin shorts, Buster Keaton shorts and of course Phantom of the Opera which he will perform at Fenelon Falls United. An extra large screen will be brought in to view the original silent film of Phantom of the Opera, starring Lorne Chaney, and Mary Philbin, while Ian provides supportive narration and full organ accompaniment, “in costume”.

Doors open 6:45 PM and shortly after 7:00PM Ian will provide some Scott Joplin style music to set the stage prior to the 7:30PM performance of Phantom, so you will want to arrive in time to enjoy the pre-performance as well as the feature event.

beat the Winter Blahs!

Winter can be long, tedious and boring…..and that is why Fenelon Falls United Church is having a variety evening full of comedy, music, skits and lots of laughter! With Dennis Wyatt (aka “Fenelon’s Red Green”) as Emcee, great music and the Giggles Comedy Group headlining the entertainment, it is an evening you do not want to miss.

Featuring founder Eddie Burton, with Bruce Lindsay and Harold Williams, The Giggles Night concept was initiated after Eddie won a prestigious humour award in 2007 and decided to capitalize on the concept; bringing together like-minded individuals. The group’s first Giggles Night helped Dunsford United Church replace its roof. Since then, the group has held various events, raising thousands of dollars for local charities.

Harold Williams is an accomplished comedian and storyteller. As cofounder of the Lakeland Storytellers, Harold can spin a good yarn to children from 2 to 92. Bruce Lindsay is also an award winning speaker.  Three times he has earned his way to the top Toastmasters Speech Contests in Ontario, and one time he won it. Eddie Burton is a local real estate agent and farmer. His tales of coming from city life to life as a beef farmer will be sure to bring a chuckle.

With Music Director Janice Craig, FFUC’s choir and friends will add to the evening’s entertainment with a selection of humorous songs. Rumour has it the Pink Panther will be making an appearance as well!
