VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO MAKE INDOOR WALKING PROGRAM IN FENELON FALLS A REALITY

As the popularity of walking programs increases locally, Community Care is partnering with other local health organizations to explore the possibility of an indoor program during the winter months in Fenelon Falls. The agency, along with the Kawartha North Family Health Team and City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team, hopes to present a weekly walking program in Fenelon that would be similar to the popular Get WITH It! (Walking in the Halls) program that has operated in Lindsay for three winters.

Input and volunteer support from local residents will be essential to make such a program viable, organizers say. As a result, the agencies would like to hear from interested residents who would be willing to provide their ideas and to volunteer to make an indoor walking program a reality. Organizers hope to offer the program from late fall to the spring. Volunteer commitment would be approximately 90 minutes once/week, to help with logistics and setup. Volunteers will be able to take part in the walk.

The volunteer work is suitable for interested individuals of all ages. Exact dates, times and location for a future Fenelon Falls indoor walking program are yet to be determined, but individuals interested in discussing the opportunity can contact Marina Hodson, executive director of the Kawartha North FHT, at 705-887-3535.
